Jonnie Walker Double Black

Today I am reviewing Johnnie Walker Double Black Blended Scotch Whiskey. Johnnie Walker is an extremely popular and loved brand around the world especially in Southeast Asia. This is a relatively new addition released in 2011 to their already popular black label. The intense smokiness is what differentiates Double Black from the regular Black label. This emphasis on smokiness is derived from the heavily charred casks while still maintaining its sophisticated signature Johnnie walker tone.
It is a lifestyle brand with various whiskies in several price points targeting different demographics. Escalating in price and quality their products are Red Label,Black Label, Green Label,Gold Label,Platinum Label with their prized premium whisky- The Blue Label. I have tried all of them all, the smokey flavor makes it the  most unique whisky in their product line.

Serving style- On the rocks( In other words whisky with ice)
Appearance- Deep amber ( can almost see the smokiness in it)
Aroma- Very earthy smoky smell, also smelled gently charred stone smoke with a whiff of orange and honey
Flavor- Smokey flavor of peat. Little sweet along with some raisins and orange zest flavor
Finish- Medium finish, smokiness lingers in mouth for a while

SJ's rating- Middle Shelf
This is a smokey whisky for those who prefer it. I do not like too much smokey flavor so would not buy it again. The peat smoke definitely gives its unique character and I see myself enjoying this in a cold winter night. I don't mean to be biased here but this is one of those manliest men drink that anyone could drink because of its intense and robust smokey notes.

Thank you all for reading , hope you enjoyed it. Please share your experiences with this whiskey or anything you would like or dislike about the blog in the comments below.
Cheers to enjoyable drinking 🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃🥃

  1. I have been meaning to try blended Scotch Whiskey for some time. I can remember my old man drinking Cutty Sark and thinking the ship on the bottle was so cool! I need to try it for old time's sake as well as the Johnnie Walker line. My fear is that having started on single malt everything else is going to taste like CRAP in comparison. Oh well, time to suck it up and buy a bottle of black, I may not always be able to afford my beloved MacAllan so I better find out what it's like on the other side LOL

    1. Hey BA , thanks for sharing your experiences. I honestly have not heard of Cutty Sark before but will give it a shot once for review in my upcoming blogs. I looked at the bottle and the ship really looks neat.
As far as the taste of blended goes in comparison to Single Malts, its more of what flavor you like rather than just the whisky type. I thought I never would drink bourbon but found the flavor of Makers Mark 46 to be outstanding. So I would recommend you give it a shot, explore the flavor who knows you might even like it. Every palette is different.

  2. A wise old man once said that key to his long life and happiness was to visit with Dr. Johnny Walker every evening. That is the kind of effect JW Blacks have on people...it just makes them happy. I would like to call this my happy drink too because I have always had it when I am celebrating something. I think it also brings good luck :).. anyways, hice review and agree it is a very smoky but manly drink. Cannot go wrong with this one for sure!

  4. One of the most popular and appreciated whisky of all time. The different lines makes it affordable as well as a trophy. I would say almost every person's first scotch would be one of the Jonnie
