Classic Bourbon Cocktail- The Old Fashioned

Today I am writing about a classic Bourbon Cocktail -The Old Fashioned, my favorite. When I go out drinking,I usually get a bourbon based cocktail like Old Fashioned or Manhattan. It is a welcome change from drinking at home and an excellent way to try new drinks and socialize. If you are like me, I don't make cocktails at home and leave it to the expertise of the bartenders to enjoy one. I will however make an effort in the future and try to make this at home to share it with you guys on how it goes 😄. I promise. If you would like to try it at home, below is a simple and fun recipe to follow. I am also sharing pictures of Old Fashioned I enjoyed in various different places. There might be slight variations in taste because of the different bourbons and ingredients used, however the basic ingredients are the same. I like it with Maker's Mark or Woodford Reserve bourbon as it perfectly compliments the ingredients and is well balanced.

  2. I have put away my share of Bourbon but I can actually say I've never made/ordered an Old Fashoned or a Manahatten for that matter. I grew up watching much older people in bars order them and I can remember thinking, that's an older person's drink. Now that I'm one of those older persons I guess I should try one lol!

Good write-up SJ! Let's go grab an Old Fashioned somewhere!

  3. Nice write up, SJ! As the previous commenter said, always thought of Old Fashioned as an old man's drink that is sophisticated, but it is one of the simplest yet effective cocktails out there. I liked your picture of Maple Bacon Old Fashioned...I might have to look for places here that carries that one. Looks very interesting.
Normally I don't do much cocktails, but this one would certainly be an exception and thanks for validating that thought in this blog. Enjoy your time w/ this work of art!

    1. Thanks Sway..that is true..I like some variety so Old Fashioned is a perfect cocktail as I can enjoy bourbon in a delicious way. It is depicted as a little sophisticated drink as portrayed in the movies. The Maple Bacon Old Fashioned is my best and I haven't seen it in that many places either. Let us know if you come across any place that has one :-).

  4. First of all when I type 'S' in my browser, the blog is listed on top.

my knowledge on cocktails is very limited, still don't drink cocktails as much but may be if I try this I may get into it.
But my curiosity is ... why a cocktail is a cocktail

The one we had ... Manhattan was strong

    1. Wow..that is great..even your browser know its time for SingleMaltLives when its Friday!. This drink is perfect because of its simple ingredients and delicious taste. It is also strong enough for me. I have no idea either why its called cocktail and there is no clear answer in wikipedia. I will do a full research and write in my upcoming blogs. Yes the Manhattan is my another favorite drink and it is quite strong, just the way I like it.
