SJ's Rating- Top Shelf 

It is an amazing, balanced well-rounded refined whisky. It has a maritime influence meaning some hits of sea salt which makes it very unique & flavorful. 

Occasion- Movie night

SJ's Pro tip- Really special Oban, great as a gift(In fact I got it as a gift from a friend😀)

Alternates- Glendronach 12 has a similar ABV & amazing taste if this is not available

Cocktail- N/A

Food Pairing- Chicken BBQ in Traeger

Feel(After tasting)- Delighted

Oban Distillers Edition takes the 14-year-old and matures it in Montilla Fino sherry casks.  The product story says "The Western Highland style OBAN Single Malt is epitomized by its gentle sweetness and surprising richness of palate and finish." It is an exquisite selection of double matured malt whiskies chosen from the very finest of Scotland's Distilleries.  

Well enough said, time to savor it to know if all this troy is true or not 😁. Enjoy my tasting notes.

Awards won- None found but I give it a gold medal

Tasting info

Serving glass- Shot glass

Serving style- Neat

Appearance- Dark amber 

Aroma- Smokey, fruity, chocolate bursting with flavor

Flavor- Wow smokey, sea salt, spiciness, peat from somewhere

Body- Full 

Finish- Smooth, long, lingering, spicy

Glenfiddich Select Cask Travel Exclusive

SJ's Rating- Middle Shelf

Amazing value but lacks robust finish hence didn't make it in my top spot. 

Occasion- Casual, over dinner

SJ's Pro tip- Not great for sipping, better as a shot

Alternates- Regular Glenfiddich 12

Cocktail- Highball

Food Pairing- Chicken curry, rice

Feel(After tasting)- Neutral 😐

Glenfiddich Select Cask Travel Exclusive- Reads the product story "Cask Collection is created using our pioneering Solera Vat system. These bespoke wooden vats are where the magic happens. Always at least half full, they marry Glenfiddich malts matured in different oak casks to give infinite richness and complexity"

The story further claims "Our innovative Cask Collection Solvera Vat No.1 marries these complex flavors together to create this elegant and smooth Glenfiddich Select Cask"

Woahh! let's take it a step back now and break these fancy words apart 😁

What is Solera Vat system? 

Solera means on the ground, the lower level of whisky in a vat.

Vat is a large vessel or tub used for holding, blending & treating whisky. 

Bespoke wooden vats are vats that are custom ordered by distillery from their cooper to achieve distinctive, unique flavor & character. 

Combining the meaning of these, Solera vat system is a system in which whisky is blended where some contents are always remaining in the bottom for blending with the next batch. 

The hand-selected casks by master experts are 

1.European oak casks

2.Bourbon oak casks 

3.Red Wine casks

Serving glass- Whisky tumbler

Appearance- Bright amber

Aroma- Similar to regular Glenfiddich 12 with less flowery aroma. Vanilla, oak, chocolate, mint.

Flavor- Burst of oak, vanilla, chocolate, orange, toffee and honey. Some smokey note

Body- Medium

Finish- Short, non-lingering

High West Distillery Cocktails & food

 Hello Single Malters, Today's post is about my second visit to High West Distillery. Had a great time with friends cycling around Park City and as a reward enjoyed some amazing cocktails and food. I will let the pictures speak for themselves 😀

Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Blended Scotch Whisky

Smooth as velvet! This blended scotch is balanced & gives single malts a run for their money. A Higher ABV of 43% gives it a bolder flavor than your regular blended scotch.

Occasion- Friends get together

SJ's Pro tip- #1 Great for summer days

                      #2 Try Green label first before trying JW Platinum

Alternates- Teacher's highland cream has the same ABV, equally if not better & much cheaper

Cocktail- Highball

Food Pairing- Dim sum, Boiled fish with rice. The light and smooth whisky went perfectly to wash down spicy Chinese food.

JW Green, reads the product story " A harmonious blend, created with only Single Malt whiskies including Talisker from Isle of Skye for its intense smoke & spiciness. A product story that actually makes sense and is true! I attest to each word in this story 😀. 

Other interesting facts- JW Green Label is matured for at least 15 years in European or American Oak. The blend of four distinct single malts creates magic that is not possible with one Single Malt Whisky alone.
